History
In the Spring of 2000, Lake Oconee Community Church was voted as an ecumenical shared ministry of the Georgia Christian Council, the ecumenical body for 20 major Christian denominations. Lake Oconee Community Church started their noted "Worship on the Water" services at the Reynolds Plantation Pointe Pavilion as an independent, multi-denominational church on Memorial Day weekend in 2001.
Residents of the Lake Oconee area discovered the unique feel of an outdoor worship experience. Simple and informal at first, Lake Oconee Community Church has grown in numbers and maturity. Seeking to always be welcoming, fun and compelling, Lake Oconee Community Church continues to look for creative ways to bring sacred community to the Lake Oconee area.
The Great Minds/Good News Lake Oconee Lecture Series; Bible, Books and More; Voices of Lake Oconee; and Helping Hands of Lake Oconee are illustrations of that effort. In recent years, the addition of staff has allowed Lake Oconee Community Church to expand its influence with the school systems, hospital, social service agencies, and court system. We seek to be a transformative influence in the Lake Oconee area and beyond.
